Level 1 (Beginner) Swing Series
![]() |
Jessy and Marc are excited to offer eight months of beginner level swing classes! Each 4-week series will focus on one of several styles of swing dance. The classes move at a relaxed pace and are designed with both new dancers and experienced dancers who are new to the focused swing style in mind. Please note that each series consists of four weeks of cumulative classes (weeks 2-4 of a series are based on material learned in the previous weeks of that series). Students are encouraged to repeat each series of classes until the moves and concepts taught become natural. A new four-week series begins on the first Tuesday of every month. Please note that while the content of each four week series is cumulative, the order that you choose to take the series classes is not. (For example: a student can start their dance experience with Six Count Swing, take a break for a month, then return to take Lindy Hop: Lindy Circle and Swing-Outs.) No partner is necessary. In each 4-week series you will work on the basics of swing dance including footwork, posture, partner connection and communication. Below are the topics taught in each series. Please remember that you can begin your swing dance experience at the beginning of any series.
2012 Beginner Swing Schedule
Six Count/East Coast Swing - Focused on single step six count, the simplest of all swing dance styles, this series offers a variety of moves that are guaranteed to make you shine on the dance floor. Basic Footwork Patterns - Variety is the spice of life! We'll take you through three swing dance footwork patterns: single step six count, triple step six count, and eight count Lindy Hop footwork. These patterns are easily interchangeable and add texture to even the most basic moves. Lindy Hop: Lindy Circle and Swing-Outs - The swing-out and circle are the basis of many awesome Lindy Hop moves. Lindy Hop: Basic Turns - Inside turns, outside turns, and tuck turns are some great ways to get you out on the floor. Lindy Hop: Basic Moves - Roll-offs, side passes, holds, etc. are fun moves to get you and your partner dancing. 1920's Charleston - The playful, twisty Charleston of the flapper era is sure to be a crowd pleaser at any dance event. This series explores both partnered and solo dance. 1930's Charleston - The energetic kicks that characterize 1930's Charleston are a great way to move to those fast tempo tunes. This series explores both partnered and solo dance. Balboa - This close dance is perfect for crowded dance floors and offers an elegant, energy-saving way to dance to super fast songs. |
